Dr. Mary K. Bryson is Senior Associate Dean, Administration, Faculty Affairs & Innovation and Professor, Department of Language and Literacy Education in the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Bryson’s program of research is designed so as to contribute foundational scholarship concerning access to knowledge, gender and sexual marginality and resilience. The Cancer’s Margins project (http://www.lgbtcancer.ca) that Mary directs (2012-present) is Canada’s first CIHR-funded and national investigation of sexual and gender marginality and access to cancer knowledge. Cancer’s Margins is designed to answer the growing need in public health generally, and breast and gynecologic cancer care specifically, for evidence that will assist healthcare providers in the design of structurally competent care. Mary is a recipient of the American Educational Research Association Significant Body of Research award (2013), a Senior Fellowship (2011) at Stanford University’s Clayman Institute for Gender Research, and in 2000, the Canadian Women in the Spotlight, Wired Women Pioneer in New Media award.
