It's a Wrap: Women's Health Seminar Series 2020/2021

April 30, 2021

It’s a Wrap! Our Women’s Health Seminar Series has now completed its second successful run, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. Thank you for attending, and thank you to our wonderful speakers for sharing their expertise in a variety of women’s health topics. This year, we had over 3.8K registrants including members of the public, faculty and students from the undergraduate level to postdoctoral fellows.

Want a better idea of the diversity of our audience? From the UBC community alone, registrants came from over 20 different disciplines including economics, land and food systems, and public health!

The switch to a remote format has been a new challenge for everyone, but one benefit is that it has increased our reach and allowed registrants from all over the world to join us. This year, the series drew a truly international audience: registrants came from institutions all over the world including Canada, the United States, Dubai, the United Kingdom, India, Australia, Lebanon, Iceland and Turkey. We were also lucky enough to have guest lecturers join us from 9 different institutions all over Canada and the United States.

This year, we awarded certificates of completion to 7 individuals who attended 90% or more of our sessions. A big congratulations to the following attendees. We admire your dedication!

  • Hannah Parkhouse
  • Victoria Woner
  • Dr. Veronica Murphy
  • Dr. Stephanie Koebele
  • Muna Ibrahim
  • Leila Nategh
  • Bonnie Lee
  • Dr. Alisha Arora

We also work to incorporate equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) into every series. Out of 15 seminars we held this year, 7 fit into a range of EDI categories including age, sex differences, gender, intersectionality, and culture. Here’s the breakdown of topics we covered:

This series wouldn't be possible without the generous donations of people and organizations that believe in the power of education as a tool for advancing women's health. Thank you to Dr. Elizabeth Rideout and Dr. Liisa Galea for making significant donations to the WHRC, to UBC for contributing to this project and to all of our individual donors. If you enjoyed this series and want to see more in the future, you can make a donation here.
